Fishermans Paradise

Port Hardy is a fishing paradise! Fishing charters and boat rentals are available year-round. The best fishing season for salmon from April to September and for halibut and cod from April to October.

Whale Watching

OTHER THINGS TO DO

  • Port Hardy has many good bars with live music, various lounges, and pubs. There are also many annual cultural events and festivals.

  • Launch a boat from Fisherman’s Wharf or a private marina next door to us and tour the local waterways.

  • Kayak, canoe, or hike in spectacular locations. Transportation to remote locations is available. Hike to Raft Cove and San Josef Bay; these hikes are suitable for all levels of hiking ability.

  • Stroll along the sea wall or the Oceanside nature path and watch for marine wildlife.

  • In mid-July, join the fun at Filomi Days, an event celebrating the area’s biggest industries—Fishing, Logging, and mining. Play a relaxing round of golf on the par-72 course.

  • The community of coal Harbour, 20 minutes from Port Hardy, is the location of a RCAF Memorial and a peaceful place to canoe, fish, and explore.

  • Take a free forest tour and see some of the island’s most beautiful forest; tours take about 5 hours.

  • Explore the stunning beauty of the mid-coast area on the Discovery Coast Passage, the BC Ferries route from Port Hardy to Bella Coola. Stopovers include Klemtu, Ocean Falls, and Shearwater.

  • Investigate the museum, shop for arts and crafts and watch Nature carvers at work.

  • Take a 15-hour BC Ferry trip through the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert and enjoy the scenic grandeur of one of the world’s most awe-inspiring voyages.
